Thursday Nov 07, 2019
Thursday Nov 07, 2019
She's the sex worker who made it work. This week, we're looking at Madame Fahmy, born Marguerite Alibert, and her tragic youth, tumultuous relationships, and a murder that would rock the British royal family.
Plus, we question whether bigamy is a gateway drug, invent a new (and delicious-sounding) food, and discuss what serial killers and 1900s British lawyers have in common.

We're starting off our month-long Halloween series with a fit of the vapors! Our first Halloween episode will take us to the mad, mad world of Mattoon, Illinois in 1944, where the "Phantom Anesthetist" attacked dozens of people with...well, we still don't know. But we have theories and rampant speculation, as always.
And don't miss several seriously random fun facts involving fast food restaurants, popular comic books, and well-known children's writers. Plus helium voices and a truly beautiful Broadway song commemorating this week's topic.
Also, give us that 5-star review you know we deserve! You can also follow us here on Podbean, Stitcher, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. While you're at it, hit us up on our FB group or Twitter to talk Old Timey Crime.
Thanks for listening, and remember: just, you know, don't gas people.

Scott and Kristy look at Eugene Francois Vidocq, a man who just couldn't decide what he wanted to be--unless he was escaping from jail. From traveling entertainer to swordsman, from traitor to fake aristocrat, he did it all and SO. MUCH. MORE.
This man did not know how to handle a promotion or learn from experience, but he knew how to keep everyone guessing.
You'll be the best gumshoe ever if you leave us a 5-star review on iTunes. And if you'd like to control our fates, simply go to our Amazon wishlist and purchase a book for a future "Deep Dive" to pick a future episode topic.
Don't forget to follow us here on Podbean, Stitcher, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts, and hit us up on our FB group or Twitter to talk Old Timey Crime. Thanks for listening, and always be your best Vidocq.

This week, we hop back to 1928 in Pennsylvania, where one man's run of horrible luck results in his suspicions that he was hexed. In the end, a man will lose his life and a town will be forever changed. But eventually there's a hayride, so we'll try to take solace in that.
Also, we learn some fun spells that probably won't cure what ails you, find out Scott's awesome insomnia remedy, and learn a very simple method for escaping a state hospital. And for a palate cleanser, stay tuned for a woman who refused to pollute the earth. To be honest, we kinda can't blame her...

Friday May 31, 2019
Friday May 31, 2019
This week, Kristy and Scott look at the case of Hans Schmidt, the ol' Severin' Reverend. Join us as we examine the life and dastardly deeds of one not-so-holy man, his goose heads (not the beer), and why Mattel will never sponsor us. Plus, a listener poem!
